The Warrior Within Program Consists of:

01

Three Days of Daily Classes

Dr. Jenelle Kim and Master Jerry Barfield cover teachings on the 3M’s of Movement, Medicine and Meditation, sound healing, breathwork, and Chun Jee Een Moving Meditation.

02

5 Element Tae Guk Chung

This form of Tai Chi emphasizes hard, soft, quick, and slow movements that embody the principles of the Five Elements Theory. This theory is fundamental in Chinese philosophy, traditional medicine, and martial arts. The theory describes the interactions and balance among five elements: Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire. In martial arts, these elements symbolize different aspects of movement strategy and energy flow. The theory is utilized to understand attack and defense strategies, body mechanics, and the cultivation of internal energy for health and well-being.

03

Moving Meditation & Sound Healing

Chun Jee Een Moving Meditation, specific acupressure points, gong sound bath & crystal singing bowls are synergistically combined in this lesson and healing session to help rebalance your mental, physical & emotional condition, calm the mind and boost overall wellness.

Montaña de Fuego Resort & Spa – La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Step into the heart of nature and discover the warrior within you. Surrounded by lush rainforest and breathtaking views of the majestic Arenal Volcano, Montaña de Fuego Resort & Spa is the perfect sanctuary for transformation, healing, and renewal. Nestled in the vibrant La Fortuna region, this property offers not only natural beauty but also profound energetic alignment, making it the ideal setting for Dr. Jenelle Kim’s Warrior Within Retreat.

The Power & Feng Shui of the Volcano

La Fortuna is home to the awe-inspiring Arenal Volcano, a powerful source of natural energy. In feng shui, a volcano embodies the union of fire and earth elements—a symbol of transformation, renewal, and strength. Its presence encourages us to release what no longer serves us and to build a strong foundation for new growth. This energy mirrors the heart of the Warrior Within retreat: letting go, finding strength, and stepping into your most authentic self.

Healing Hot Springs

Fed directly by the volcano, La Fortuna’s hot springs are rich in minerals that deeply relax muscles, restore circulation, and revitalize the body. In feng shui, water represents flow, abundance, and emotional balance. Immersing in these thermal waters helps to restore harmony in both body and spirit, enhancing the healing journey you’ll experience throughout the retreat.

Balance & Vitality

The unique meeting of fire (the volcano) and water (the hot springs) creates a rare yin–yang balance—strength and softness, action and stillness, heat and coolness. This natural equilibrium supports mindfulness, meditation, and inner transformation, offering an environment where you can cultivate true balance and vitality.

Climate & Comfort

Unlike Costa Rica’s coastal regions, La Fortuna enjoys a cooler, more temperate climate. This makes for a more comfortable experience during practices, activities, and rest, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the retreat without distraction. The atmosphere here is both refreshing and invigorating—perfectly aligned with the journey of renewal we will share together.

Why La Fortuna?

These natural qualities make La Fortuna a truly elevated setting for Warrior Within. The harmony of fire and water, the grounding presence of the volcano, and the soothing flow of the springs all align energetically with the retreat’s purpose: transformation, renewal, and empowerment from within.

Your Stay at Montaña de Fuego Includes:

– Nourishing three meals daily (breakfast, lunch, & dinner)

– Purifying outdoor volcanic mud baths

– Full access to the Lava Springs thermal mineral pools and volcanic clay baths

Travel Notes

PASSPORT: All persons flying in and out of San Jose, Costa Rica require a Passport with at least 6 months remaining on it before expiring

GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Ground transportation from the San Jose Airport (SJO) ranges from $30 to $50 each way depending on the numbers of persons riding in the van: i.e. Minimum 3 persons for van pickup: Approx. prices are (one way) 3 persons @ $50 each, 6 persons or more at $30 each.

It is advised to coordinate your flights and arrival time to match the best ground transportation options. Ground transportation may have less options for evening pickup from the airport.

Things to Do

Costa Rica is known for its Eco diversity. You could make 10 one-week trips to Costa Rica and still see less than half of this amazing country. From where this retreat is held, the southern pacific area of Esterillos Este, there are many amazing places to visit and things to do within 1 to 1.5 hours.

FAQs and Other Information

Everyone traveling to Costa Rica needs a passport, even infants. Note that the expiration date of your passport needs to be more than 6 months past the return flight of your trip. Families traveling with infants should check their passports very closely to avoid travel delays.

The San Jose (SJO) International Airport is the closest — just under a 2-hour drive. This is the most common choice of travelers going to the southern Pacific coast, where the retreat is located, because it’s half the distance and ground transportation is more readily available.

The Liberia (LIR) International Airport is the second option.  It is a 4-hour drive to the retreat.  It is a much smaller airport located in the northwest corner of Costa Rica.

You may want to check flights into both airports as the prices and flight times vary. Ground travel from the Liberia airport is double the distance, time, and cost but less mountainous.

It’s a good idea to coordinate ground transportation with your air travel.

Hiring ground transportation – factors to consider:

  • Ground transportation can be arranged for any time of day that you arrive at the airport.  But some companies prefer to only drive during daylight hours.  If your ground transportation company won’t pick you up late you may have to get an airport hotel room and arrange to be picked up in the morning.
  • Prices: The vans for hire typically seat up to 10 passengers.  The rate per person will be less as you have more persons in your group traveling together.   From the San Jose International airport the prices are typically $120 for the first 3 passengers and up to approximately $180 for 6 to 8 passengers.

Car Rental (San Jose Airport)

  • It is not recommended to drive at night (it’s not uncommon for animals to be on the road at night.)
  • It is recommended to research a company you feel matches your needs and understand all the fees for insurance, etc.
  • Navigation: Waze and Google are the most popular navigation apps used in Costa Rica. Leaving the airport is the main challenge, since there can be significant traffic. It may take 20-30 minutes to travel the first few miles.
  • Traveling to the resort is almost all highway. The first highway leaving the airport takes you â…” of the way there. The last â…“ is on the main highway going south. Once you exit that second highway, the resort is ½ mile away.

Car Rental (small beach town of Jaco, 25 minutes from the retreat)

  • If you are at the resort and decide to rent a car you can do so in Jaco. The town has most major rental companies.
  • Zuma Rental Car is recommended by locals.  They can pick you up at the airport (the San Jose Airport) and drive you to their office in Jaco (which is right on the way to the resort) and give you your car and do the reverse on the return trip going home.

Rental Car (from resort)

  • The hotel can help you arrange a rental car and have it delivered to the hotel.

You do not need a car to participate in the retreat. Once you are at the resort all retreat activities are on property or within short walking distance. All meals are included from Friday morning to Monday morning.

If you want to venture out to see certain attractions a car is necessary.

A 5-minute drive (30+ minute walk) brings you to a center with a grocery market, several restaurants, ice cream parlor, coffee shops etc.

Yes, you can add extra days before or after the retreat.

The Montaña de Fuego will most likely honor our group pricing for the extra day(s). Please coordinate with the resort.

Cell phone reception is generally pretty good in Costa Rica, although the preferred method of communication for many people and businesses there is WhatsApp.
